my anxiety about bike and build

I think everyone thinks I am the greatest cyclist ever and etc. after my last post.
Well, this is my blog to tell you all about how freaked out I am about getting everything done/paid for because no one else blogs about that kind of stuff.

1.) I haven't even looked at the presentation thing. I know I am in week two, that's about it.

2.) I still need the raise $1,400. BLARG! That is the sound of frustration.

3.) I still haven't gotten my bike. Could a bike get lost in the mail?

4.) I barely have any time to cycle. I have worked for about 12 days straight.

5.) I still don't know about my travel arrangements.

6.) I have no money, which translates into being afraid of not working for two months (and right after that having to find a new place and put a deposit down, start paying rent, and all the other costs that invariably come with moving)

7.) Speaking of moving costs. Getting from here to San Diego, getting from San Diego to Norfolk, getting from Norfolk to Nags Head. Mother.

8.) No money also translates into not wanted to shell out for gear.

9.) Habitat has no construction, their ReStore is only open three days a week, two of which it would be impossible for me to work with my normal work schedule, the other one I would only be able to work 2 hr/each time AND I wouldn't be able to start until after May 1st because I would have to go through orientation. They also sound like they wouldn't e excited about me volunteering because I would be leaving for two months after my first few days. Uhm, I'm leaving for two months to work on other affordable housing stuff. Get over yourselves.
The other affordable housing org. where I live neither answered my emails or my phone calls. Who would have thought people would not want volunteers?

So that's what's happening with me! EXCITING!

Don't sweat it! It will all work out.

1.) I've looked at the presentation thing, that's it.

2.) I still need about $700.

3.) I got my bike but it took two weeks longer due to a mix-up

4.) Any riding you do is better then nothing.

5.) I've not figured out how to get to NC from the Norfolk, VA airport

6.) I'll have very little money

7.) I bought my plane ticket months ago through a sweet deal a friend had.

8.) It's not too much gear. See if you can borrow some from people

9.) Nothing going on in my area. I think I'm going to pick weeds or something for my churches homeless mothers house. That's pretty much all I can do.

Thank you so much for posting honestly. :-) I've been trying really hard to keep my blog on the positive side... When I go days without posting it's probably because I'm mega stressed out/freaked out/frustrated/angry about everything. Here's the truth:

1) I haven't looked at the presentation thing. My last final is May 2. I'll do it then.

2) I still need to raise almost $1,600. I can't think of anyone else to ask. I was counting on $1,000 from somewhere, but that recently fell through. Exasperation.

3) I'm sorry. :-( It felt like it took forever. I definitely emailed Kim Starr at Zane's at least 3 times asking when it would arrive. Call them and find out if/when they shipped.

4) Me either. I was excited because I got to ride 20 miles Sunday and about 12 on Monday. Before that I hadn't ridden in 2 weeks. I haven't ridden since. Here's what I decided: this is going to be the hardest thing my body's ever done. Enjoy the scenery, embrace the pain (ignore it if possible), just keep pedaling.

5) I haven't bought a ticket home from San Diego yet. Email the listserve about getting a ride to Nags Head. I think my last count was maybe 4 of you flying into Norfolk. Maybe share a cab? I'm flying into Raleigh and someone's driving me from there.

6) I hate money.

7) see #6

8) Check for deals online. I bought some sweet shorts from sierratradingpost.com for half off. I still have some things to find which I need to get on so they ship to me in time. Here's one way of thinking about gear: You seem to love cycling. Some things might get worn out this summer, but others you can use for years.

9) Sorry again. :-/ Have you emailed your trip leader about advice on this? It is extremely frustrating.. Sometimes my school chapter has to turn so many people away because there's not enough work. Other times we're desperate for volunteers and no one's around (usually during finals). The only other thing I can think would be calling an affiliate a little further away and making a trip out of it.

Good luck! Don't get discouraged! It will be worth it! (I hope?)

Hey I also just realized something! If you've not gotten your new bike yet, what are you riding? Before I got this bike I was definitely averaging around 12-13 mph.. Now I try to do 15-16. Just something to think about/get super excited about?

i'm actually riding a pretty sweet bike. haha. i just like to ride slowly, i guess? i don't know how much sweeter this bike will be, BUT i do know that my cyclocomputer is all funky and tells me i am going slower than i actually am.

That's cool, I definitely plan on chilling this summer and riding kinda slow. I'd rather see the sights and not burn myself out. And I keep reminding myself that I'm biking around Florida where everything's flat... :-)
